Israeli Minister: There is no food, water and energy for Gaza until the hostages

Israel's Energy Minister Israel Katz said Thursday that the siege of the Gaza Strip will not end until Hamas releases all Israeli hostages.

"Energy will not be supplied, water will not be released and no fuel samples will enter Gaza until the hostages are released," Katz said on social media.

Israel launched its siege of the Gaza Strip on Monday, two days after Hamas militants breached border barriers and entered southern Israel to carry out one of the deadliest attacks in Israel's history.

At least 150 hostages were taken to Gaza during the weekend Hamas attack that killed more than 1,200 Israelis.

On Wednesday, Gaza's only power plant ran out of fuel, meaning the enclave of about 2.3 million people is now completely dependent on generators for power.

The Israeli army has been shelling Gaza since Monday, killing around 1,200 Palestinians during this period.

US President Joe Biden on Wednesday called on Israel to abide by the rules of war, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to destroy Hamas.

Biden said he spoke Wednesday with Netanyahu, whom he said he has known for more than 40 years and with whom he has a “very sincere relationship. I know him very well."

"One thing I told him is that it is very important for Israel, despite the anger and fury that exists, to act according to the rules of war," Biden said.
