US "dismantles" Iranian cyber network/ Albania among targeted

The United States Department of Justice announced the seizure of four domains linked to the Ministry of Intelligence and Security of the Islamic Republic of Iran (MOIS), used for psychological operations, cyberattacks, and threats against individuals and international organizations.

The seized domains – Justicehomeland[.]org, Handala-Hack[.]to, Karmabelow80[.]org and Handala-Redwanted[.]to – were used to claim credit for cyberattacks, distribute stolen sensitive data and threaten journalists, Iranian dissidents and Israeli citizens. On March 11, 2026, for example, the domain Handala-Hack[.]to claimed to have carried out a devastating malware attack against a US-based multinational medical technology firm.

The FBI investigation found that the domains were linked through data leaks, Iranian IP ranges, and an operational manual that included destructive cyberattacks and “fake” psychological operations. The domains were also used to distribute personal data of targeted individuals and to instill fear and pressure on Iranian dissidents and journalists living in the United States and abroad.

The Justicehomeland[.]org and Karmabelow80[.]org domains also have a history of activity in Europe. In 2022, according to court documents, MOIS used the Justicehomeland[.]org domain to claim responsibility for the theft of sensitive documents from Albanian government organizations. This followed the Albanian government’s decision to support an Iranian dissident group, the Mujahedeen e-Khalq (MEK), which has in the past openly advocated the overthrow of the Iranian government. This action demonstrates Tehran’s efforts to influence and spy on regime opponents abroad.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi stressed that “terrorist propaganda online can incite violence in the real world. This action destroys networks that pose a threat to American and international citizens.” FBI Director Kash Patel added that “the four pillars of the Iranian operation have been dismantled and the investigation continues. We will pursue any actor who threatens Americans and dissidents.”

The FBI Baltimore Field Office and the FBI Cyber ??Division are investigating the case in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland and the National Cybersecurity Section. In addition, the Rewards for Justice program is offering up to $10 million for information leading to

This action demonstrates the United States' effort to crack down on Iranian state-sponsored cyber activities, protecting not only American citizens but also dissidents and other international communities targeted by Tehran's regime's attacks and threats./ CNA
