"The best chance to free the hostages"/ Chancellor Merz calls Prime Minister Netanyahu

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this Sunday.

Merz urged that talks in Egypt lead to a swift agreement to end the conflict in Gaza, a German government spokesman said.

"The Chancellor expressly supports President Trump's peace plan. Almost two years after the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023, this is the best chance for peace for the hostages and peace for Gaza," the German government said in a statement.

The spokesman added that the announced withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza is the right step.
