Vladimir Putin has shown special concern for Donald Trump after the possible assassination attempt on the American president during the election campaign last July.

According to Steve Witkoff, the US Envoy to Ukraine, during a recent meeting with Putin in Moscow, the Russian president confessed that after the incident, he went to his church and prayed for Trump's health and safety.

Witkoff emphasized that Putin felt a special friendship for Trump and that his prayer was a sign of that friendship. 

Witkoff also shared this story with Trump, which has deeply affected the American president.


"When the president was injured, he (Putin) went to his church, met with his priest and prayed for the president," Witkoff said in an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, adding that Putin "felt friendship" for the American billionaire and "prayed for his friend." Witkoff has also told this story to Trump, who, according to him, was "clearly touched."

Furthermore, Witkoff revealed that Putin has commissioned and gifted a "beautiful portrait" of Trump, done by a renowned Russian artist, another sign of the Russian president's friendship and respect for Trump.

This story comes after several comments by Trump in the past, where he has praised Putin as a "genius" and a "strong leader", even after the invasion of Ukraine began. /CNA
