President Trump selects next US Federal Reserve chairman

US President Donald Trump announced that he has chosen Kevin Warsh as the next chairman of the US Federal Reserve, following the end of Jerome Powell's term in May, while the appointment must be approved by the US Senate.

Kevin Warsh is known as a critic of the Reserve's current policies, particularly regarding interest rates and the way the central bank conducts monetary policy.

Trump stated that he has known Warsh for many years and expressed his belief that he will be one of the best leaders in the history of the Reserve. 

The decision comes at a time when Trump is increasing pressure on the Federal Reserve, demanding more control and accusing the institution of policies that, according to him, are harming the American economy./CNA
