The Serb protest in Zubin Potok ends

In Zubin Potok, one of the four municipalities with a Serb majority in the north of Kosovo, the protest of the local Serbs has ended.

Although in smaller numbers than the previous day, on Tuesday the local Serbs protested again in Zubin Potok against the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north.

Protesters also demand that Kosovo withdraw special police units from the north.

In Zveçan, meanwhile, an official of the Serbian List earlier asked the gathered citizens to disperse around 16:00, inviting them for a new protest on Wednesday.

Kosovo police and KFOR peacekeeping troops have been standing near the municipal buildings of the three municipalities in the north, after Serbian citizens gathered near them in the morning.

Since May 26, tensions have increased in the north of Kosovo, since on that same day, the new leaders of Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok entered the municipal buildings under the escort of the Kosovo Police.

The international community has strongly condemned the "forced entry" of the new municipal leaders and has asked the Kosovo authorities to immediately escalate the situation.

The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, on May 30 asked Kosovo to suspend police operations around municipal buildings in the north, in order, according to him, to reduce tensions in this part.

Previously, the Government of Kosovo has defended its decision to take the new mayors to the municipal buildings, while for the violence in Zveçan it has blamed Belgrade for "leading the extremist crowd"./ REL
