The Parliament in Skopje approves the membership of Sweden, Finland in NATO
Parliament of North Macedonia

The Parliament of North Macedonia ratified on Wednesday the protocols for the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO. In the 120-seat parliament, 103 lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties voted in favor, while only two lawmakers from the Macedonian nationalist "Left" party voted against, thus sticking to their previous stance against NATO. However, the vote was followed by applause in the parliament hall.

Në seancën e parlamentit munguan dhjetë deputetë të partive opozitare maqedonase, tre të partive të koalicionit qeveritar dhe dy deputetë të partisë shqiptare të opozitës, Aleanca për Shqiptarët, të cilët nuk ishin po ashtu të pranishëm në seancën e ratifikimit të dokumentit të rëndësishëm.

Parlamenti në Shkup për herë të parë bën ratifikimin e protokolleve të vendeve të reja aspirante për anëtarësim në Aleancë. Maqedonia e Veriut është vendi më i ri anëtar i NATO-s; ajo zyrtarisht u bë pjesë e Aleancës Veriatlantike në muajin mars të vitit 2020.

Në seancën e parlamentit morën pjesë Kryeministri Dimitar Kovaçevski, Ministrja e Mbrojtjes, Sllavjanka Petrovska, anëtarë të tjerë të qeverisë dhe pjesëtarë të trupit diplomatik të akredituar në Shkup, në mesin e të cilëve, ambasadorët e dy vendeve aspirante.

North Macedonia is the nineteenth country out of thirty NATO member states that has so far approved the membership of two Scandinavian countries in the Alliance.

The Macedonian authorities appreciate the act of ratification of the protocols as a confirmation of the country's strategic orientation towards NATO's open door policies and its expansion.

"The membership of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Finland in the North Atlantic Alliance is a very important step for the strengthening of peace, security and stability in Europe, given the Russian aggression in Ukraine" , it is stated in a communique of the government in Skopje.
