Residents panic/ The earthquake in Greece causes a massive rock fall

Residents are scared after the earthquake that was recorded at 18:30 this evening in Patra, Greece.

The Greek media have not reported any injuries, but there is material damage and stone detachment.

 "The earthquake that was felt around 18:30 in the afternoon caused panic in the residents of Thermos, but also in the neighboring areas", said the mayor of Thermos, Spyros Konstandaras.

So far, rockfalls have been reported on the provincial road network that connects the area of ??Thermos with Nafpaktos, but also in the mountainous areas of the municipality.

 "We hope it is the main earthquake, because the tremors awakened memories of the strong earthquake that occurred in our area in April 2007 and caused great destruction," said the mayor.

"Trichonida is known for seismic oscillations and we are waiting to see how the phenomenon will develop, since there have been some aftershocks, but not many others", said the professor of Geology at the University of Patras, and the director of the Seismology Laboratory, Efthymios Sokos.

 "Given the seismic sequence we had in April 2007 where three to four earthquakes were recorded, with a magnitude close to 5 degrees on the Richter scale, it is a bit risky to make assessments now about the evolution of the phenomenon," added Efthymios Sokos.
