US carries out attacks in southern Iran/ Rubio: A deal is still possible

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to step up attacks against the Islamist militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
"We will not slow down. The situation forces us to increase the strikes, to increase their power," the Israeli leader said, also promising to strike Hezbollah.
His statement comes at a time when both far-right politicians and large sections of the Israeli public are putting pressure on Netanyahu's government to find a solution to the drone attacks by Iranian-backed militias targeting northern Israel.
While Israel is in an election year, Netanyahu's far-right religious bloc is currently trailing in opinion polls. Israel and Hezbollah have been carrying out mutual attacks with little pause, despite a ceasefire that officially went into effect on April 17.
It is not yet clear whether negotiations between Iran and the US, as well as Iran, to end the war will include Lebanon, with Israel vowing to maintain its freedom to act against the Shiite militia at all times and Iran seeking to secure a ceasefire for the Islamist organization it supports. /CNA
