Peace negotiations with Russia over Ukraine/ Trump: Patience with Putin is

US President Donald Trump said his patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin was running out, while Moscow announced that peace negotiations with Ukraine were on hold.

The Kremlin said it was still open to talks with Kiev, but accused European countries of obstructing the process.

Speaking on American media outlet Fox News, Trump, who has long insisted on a negotiated solution to end the fighting in Ukraine, said his patience with President Putin is running out.

"It's ending and it's ending fast," Trump said.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have held three rounds of direct talks this year in Istanbul, most recently on July 23, which have yielded some agreements on the return of prisoners of war and the bodies of the dead. But the two sides remain far apart on what a possible peace deal might look like.

Asked whether talks between Kiev and Moscow have stalled, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there is a pause at the moment.

"The communication channels are in place and functioning. Our negotiators have the opportunity to communicate through these channels. But for now, it is probably more accurate to say that there is a pause," Peskov said.

Moscow has faced proposals from European countries and Britain to offer Ukraine security guarantees that could include deploying NATO troops on the ground after any peace deal, saying it could not accept such a move. /CNA
