Citizens of Montenegro vote on Sunday to elect the country's new president.

The current president, Milo Djukanovic, is running against six other rivals, including four members of the pro-Serb camp.

The polls opened at 07:00 in the morning and the first results are expected at midnight.

Analysts believe that the name of the winner will be announced in the run-off that could be held on April 2.

Djukanovic, 61 years old, has held the highest positions in the Government of Montenegro in the last three decades.

He has served six times as prime minister, namely since 1991.

Victory in these elections would secure him a third term as president.

He has pushed the country towards the West and NATO membership in 2017.

The other candidates in the race for president are: the head of the Serbian New Democracy, Andrija Mandi?, Jakov Millatovi? from Europe Now, Alleksa Be?i?, former president of the Assembly of Montenegro and leader of the Democrats; Goran Danillovi?, candidate of the United Montenegro coalition; Draginja Vuksanovi? Stankovi? from the Social Democratic Party and Jovan Joxhir Radullovi?, known for the large number of followers on social media.

Montenegro, a NATO member country, has about 625,000 inhabitants.

542,154 citizens have the right to vote in the presidential elections./ Rel
