Moldova expresses doubts about conspiracy claims in Transnistria
The Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean

Moldova has cast doubt on the claim made by the de facto authorities of Transnistria that they have thwarted a "terrorist" plot orchestrated by Ukraine to kill the separatist leaders of this region. Kiev has described this event as a "provocation by the Kremlin ".

The Ministry of Security of the self-proclaimed state of Transnistria said in a statement on March 9 that it had arrested dozens of suspects and opened an investigation into "the organization of a terrorist attack" and "the plot to kill two or more people because of the positions their official ".

Russia has falsely claimed that Ukraine is planning to invade Transnistria, raising suspicions that Moscow is looking to create a pretext to annex the separatist region, as it did with Ukraine's Crimea in 2014. Moscow has said that any attack in Transistria would consider it an attack on Russia.

Russia is the only one that supports this region and has an armed forces base there with over 1,000 troops.

Some analysts have said that if Russia's war against Ukraine widens, Moldova is likely to be Moscow's next target.

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has warned that Russia is planning to destabilize her country through actions inside Moldova, to justify the Russian occupation of Transnistria, which could turn Moldova into a place from which attacks on Ukraine would be launched./ VOA
