Slovakia: It is time to decide on the delivery of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine

Slovakia must make a decision on sending MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad said, referring to the fleet of 11 planes that was decommissioned last summer. But not all of these aircraft are in operational condition.

"I think it's time to make a decision," Nad wrote on Facebook.

"People are dying in Ukraine, we can really help them, there is no place for politics", he added.

Shtetet perëndimore i kanë dhënë Ukrainës armë, por deri më tani kanë refuzuar që t’i dërgojnë avionë luftarakë. Polonia ka shprehur vullnet që të dërgojë avionë nëse formohet një koalicion shtetesh për këtë çështje.

“Sigurisht se nuk do të korrespondojë me numrin e Leopardëve që janë dërguar. Ne sigurisht se do ta bëjmë këtë përmes një koalicioni më të gjerë ndërkombëtar”, tha Szrot.

NATO's eastern flank states, such as Poland and Slovakia, have been strong supporters of Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion last year.

Warsaw's commitment to its neighbors has contributed to pushing other European states to provide Ukraine with heavy weapons, including tanks, which until recently had been opposed by some governments, including the German one.

Slovakia's Prime Minister, Eduard Heger, said last month that his country would start discussions on sending the planes, following Kiev's request.

Heger's executive is the acting Government until the elections to be held in September, and Nad said he was ready to involve Parliament in the decision on the plan to send the planes to Ukraine./REL
