With a narrow margin of votes / The winner of the presidential election in Peru

Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori has been officially declared the winner of the second round of Peru's presidential election, three weeks after the vote.

According to the final results released by the electoral authority, Fujimori secured 50.13% of the vote, while her rival, Roberto Sanchez, received 49.86%. The difference between them was less than 50,000 votes, out of more than 18 million voters, making this one of the closest races in the country's history.

Keiko Fujimori's victory marks the return of Fujimoriism to power, more than two decades after the end of the government of her father, Alberto Fujimori, who led Peru from 1990 to 2000.

On the other hand, Roberto Sanchez has refused to recognize the result, claiming irregularities in the electoral process and demanding the annulment of the votes of the Peruvian diaspora. He has also warned that he will turn to international institutions to challenge the result.

Keiko Fujimori acknowledged that she will be leading a politically divided country and pledged to work for dialogue and cooperation with all political forces. She declared that "Peru is divided" and that the new government's responsibility will be to listen to both sides.

The handover of power is expected to take place on July 28, when the new president will begin her five-year term in a country that has been facing political instability for years. /CNA
