US strikes Iran again / Tehran retaliates with attacks on US bases

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated further after Washington carried out a series of new air strikes on Iranian military targets in response to a drone attack on a Panamanian-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US warplanes struck 10 Iranian military targets in and near the Strait of Hormuz. Among the targets struck were military equipment, communication systems, air defense positions and drone storage facilities.

On the other hand, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared that they had launched retaliatory attacks with ballistic missiles and drones against US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.

According to Tehran, the attacks targeted the Ali al-Salem base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Naval Fleet in Port Salman, Bahrain.

After exchanging attacks, both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire reached on June 17. The US claims that Iran violated the agreement by attacking a Panamanian-flagged merchant ship, while Tehran described the US attacks as a serious violation of the agreement.

Iranian authorities warned that any future aggression would receive an even harsher response and declared that the ceasefire agreement risks complete failure.

US President Donald Trump reacted via the Truth Social network, stating that it is "very possible" that Iran "will never learn," while warning that the US may be forced to militarily end operations against the Islamic Republic.

Following the attacks, Kuwait and Bahrain activated air defense systems and urged citizens to follow safety guidelines.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most important shipping routes for global oil and gas transportation. The closure or restriction of navigation in this corridor has caused oil prices to rise in international markets and concerns about global energy supplies. /CNA
