Over 5.4 million jobs remain inaccessible to non-European foreigners in France due to the degrees or qualifications required and the necessary authorization procedures, the Observatory of Inequalities has revealed.
Most of these jobs (4.1 million) are public service positions, while more than one million are private sector jobs, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
Regarding jobs in the public sector, the Observatory of Inequalities pointed out that European legislation mandates that competitions be opened for civil service positions, but only for citizens of the member states of the European Union.
However, non-European foreigners can work in specific occupations as contractors, meaning non-permanent workers.
According to the same source, only two categories of civil service positions are accessible to all foreigners: hospital doctors and university lecturers-researchers, with a total of 140,000 jobs. /CNA
