France's main energy supplier, EDF, temporarily shut down three nuclear reactors as a measure against the heatwave that has hit the country.
The three reactors in Golfech, Bugey and Chooz were affected. It was also decided to reduce production in eight other reactors to avoid overheating the rivers used for cooling.
The reactor shutdowns, along with reduced power generation, underscore the vulnerability of France's energy infrastructure to extreme weather.
Tourism in France has also suffered disruptions, with reduced opening hours at world-famous attractions and instructions for travelers to adjust plans, stay hydrated and avoid peak heat.
The Tour de France shortened a stage for the first time in its history due to high temperatures.
In Paris, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay closed earlier than usual to protect visitors and staff. Other cultural sites, including the Palace of Versailles and Sainte-Chapelle, also adjusted their hours as temperatures reached 38°C in the capital region. /CNA
