Kurti for police resignations: There must be new job applications

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, commented on Wednesday the resignations of Serbs from Kosovo's institutions, saying that the vacuum should be filled with "new job applications".

Hundreds of Kosovo Serbs from the four northern municipalities of the country, since the beginning of November, have resigned from several Kosovo institutions, including the Police, the Judiciary, as well as at the political level in the municipalities and the Assembly of Kosovo.

The resignations were made as a sign of opposition to the decision of the Government of Kosovo that required the re-registration of car plates issued by Serbia with the acronyms of the cities of Kosovo in the RKS.

Prime Minister Kurti, summoned to an interpellation in the Assembly of Kosovo, called the resignations a political decision.

Speaking specifically about the resignations of 578 police officers who come from the Serbian community in Kosovo, he said that the resignations were made "for unknown reasons".

"They said moral and individual and the text is the same for each of them", said Kurti, commenting on the text, with which these officials resigned.

Kurti also said that "it is not true that there is no Police in the north of Kosovo", after the resignation of the Serbs.

"There is no Police building without Kosovo Police. Our police are there. Even on the streets there are Kosovo Police", said Kurti.

“Aty ku ka vakum duhet të ketë aplikime të reja për punë. Vendimi politik i dorëheqjes nuk mund të pasohet me thirrje politike për kthim, por me aplikim profesional”, tha Kurti.

Presidenti i Serbisë, Aleksandar Vuçiq, më 24 nëntor konfirmoi se serbët nga veriu i Kosovës do të kthehen në institucionet e Kosovës kur të plotësohet kushti i dytë, pra të formohet Asociacioni. Ky Asociacion është dakorduar në kuadër të dialogut ndërmjet Kosovës dhe Serbisë, por është i papranueshëm për Qeverinë e Kosovës, sepse e sheh atë si trup monoetnik.

Para fjalimit të Kurtit, Ramush Haradinaj, lider i partisë opozitare Aleanca për Ardhmërinë e Kosovës, e propozoi një rezolutë për votim në Kuvend që ndër tjerash kërkon që “institucionet e Kosovës në të gjitha nivelet të fillojnë dialogun intensiv me serbët e Kosovës për t’u kthyer në institucionet e Kosovës dhe për të kthyer besimin e ndërsjellë”.

Në anën tjetër, Enver Hoxhaj, deputet opozitar nga Partia Demokratike e Kosovës, reagoi ndaj fjalimit të Kurtit duke thënë se situata në veri të vendit “nuk është vetëm vakum institucional”.

“Është humnerë politike. Aktualisht, nuk ka as institucione shtetërore (në veri), as proces politik për t’i krijuar ato. Situata në veri të vendit ka qenë çdo herë komplekse, por pas 5 nëntorit (dita e nisjes së dorëheqjeve) është një kolaps shtetëror”, tha ai.

Meanwhile, Lumir Abdixhiku from the Democratic League of Kosovo, also an opposition party, asked Kurti to coordinate with Kosovo's international allies and reach a final agreement with Serbia.

"Kosovo should seek a final agreement, not an intermediate one, not an initial one. It should only talk about mutual recognition and not about other implications that also attack the interpretation of Kosovo's declaration of independence and leave room for any new interpretation", he stressed he.

On November 23, Kosovo and Serbia reached an agreement on license plates, under the mediation of the European Union.

The agreement foresees that Kosovo suspends the plan for re-registration of cars and that Serbia no longer issues Serbian license plates to citizens in Kosovo./REL
