Kurti demands that additional KFOR forces guard the border with Serbia

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has requested that additional KFOR forces, which have been sent to Kosovo, "concentrate on maintaining the border between Kosovo and Serbia".

He made this request during a meeting with the commander of the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, Ozkan Ulutash.

According to the announcement, Kurti and Ulutash talked about the security situation in Kosovo, after the attack on the police on September 24 in Banjska in Zveçan.

Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed during the attack of the armed group of Serbs by the police. In the fighting, authorities said three Serb attackers were also killed.

Kurti said that Kosovo is interested in increasing cooperation with KFOR.

"The Prime Minister welcomed the increase in the number of KFOR troops, in response to the terrorist attack by Serbia in Kosovo, stressing that this increased presence should be concentrated in maintaining the border between Kosovo and Serbia, from where it entered the armament of Serbia and where the threat to Kosovo comes from. Guarding the border also means closing illegal roads, which is why greater cooperation with the Kosovo Police is necessary," said the Kurti Office announcement.

After the attack, authorities confiscated a large amount of weapons in the north of the state. Kosovo has blamed Serbia for the attack, but Belgrade has denied having a hand in it. The responsibility for the attack has been taken by Millan Radoicic, former vice-president of Lista Serbe, the main party of Serbs in Kosovo that enjoys the support of official Belgrade.

Because of the attack, NATO increased its presence in Kosovo by sending additional troops. The United States and the European Union have strongly condemned the attack.

Kosovo has asked the European Union to impose punitive measures on Serbia, while the European bloc has said that they are waiting for the investigations to be completed and then they will decide on the eventual measures and steps./ REL
