China reopens for tourists/ Issuance of visas resumes

China will reopen its borders to tourists and resume issuing all types of visas on Wednesday as it tries to revive the country's tourism and economy after three years of restrictions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

China is one of the last major countries to reopen its borders to tourists. In February, Chinese authorities announced what they called a decisive victory over COVID-19. Issuance of visas resumes on Wednesday.

It will also resume visa-free entry to places such as Hainan Island, as well as for cruise ships entering Shanghai, where visas were not required before the pandemic.
