Seoul said on Tuesday that North Korea had launched two short-range ballistic missiles, the second such launch by Pyongyang in three days.

These launches coincide with the time when South Korea and the United States have started the largest military exercises in the last five years. The exercises started on Monday and will last for 10 days.

Washington and Seoul have stepped up defense cooperation following increased military and nuclear threats from North Korea, which has tested a series of banned weapons in recent months.
