Bomb threats in Macedonia/ Spasovski: They come from Iran and Russia

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia is aware that bomb threats, in addition to Macedonian territory, also come from abroad, namely from Russia and Iran, through the Virtual Private Network (VPN-Virtual Private Network), which is a mechanism for ensure secure internet connection.

"In recent days, according to the forensics carried out at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, alerts go through VPN addresses, but the initial calls are from Iran and Russia. It is important to note that those VPN addresses were paid for using cryptocurrency, which further complicates the possibility of determining the exact perpetrator of this crime. Already in the investigation procedure are several people who have done this also from the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia. That investigation is at an advanced stage and when the moment comes we will inform the public", declared the Minister of Internal Affairs, Oliver Spasovski.

Since October of last year, North Macedonia has been facing daily warnings about the placement of bombs in various institutions, mainly in primary and secondary schools.

In advance, the Ministry of Education in North Macedonia has recommended that during the days when there are warnings about the placement of bombs, teaching should be held remotely so that students do not miss lessons.

During the past week, in just one single day, the police forces in Skopje have evacuated staff and students from 14 schools due to the alarms they had received via e-mail about the placement of bombs.

The leaders of the institutions of North Macedonia have described the alarms about the placement of bombs as "hybrid terrorist attacks" coming from abroad./REL
