Japan aims to change legal status for COVID-19

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced plans to change the legal status of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, treating it the same as seasonal flu.

Such a step could further relax measures to combat the pandemic as Japan tries to return to normal life.

Among the measures currently being implemented in Japan is wearing a mask.

Kishida has said he has instructed experts and government officials to discuss the details of the change in status for COVID-19.
