The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) has called on citizens to be careful of mosquito bites, as infected ones can spread the West Nile virus.

This institution has said that there are still no cases of infection in Kosovo, but it has already spread to several European countries, including Spain, Italy and Greece.

On July 23, the first case of infection was registered in Serbia - an 80-year-old man.

Among the symptoms of infection are headache, fever, muscle aches and significant fatigue.

West Nile virus causes seasonal illness in the summer months.

Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on infected birds and thus spread the virus through their bite.

Experts suggest that some of the ways to protect yourself from infection are: wearing clothes with long sleeves and light colors, so that you don't go out in open spaces during the period when mosquitoes are most active - at dusk and at dawn - as well as using nets in open areas of houses./ REL
