The Netherlands will destroy 29,000 chickens to prevent bird flu

Authorities in the Netherlands will destroy another 29,000 farm chickens in the north of the country, after identifying a rare variant of bird flu, the Government said on Monday.

The farm is located in the town of Koudum.

By decision of the Government, the stop on transport from this area, and the surrounding areas, will last for seven days.

This is the third case of such a virus being reported in recent days and the sixth within a month.

About six million birds have been destroyed in the Netherlands since the identification of the new bird flu variant in October last year, the Dutch Food Safety Authority has said.

France has also faced an increasing number of cases, after the severe outbreak of this type of flu, earlier this year./ Rel
