The Greek government has thought of taking a step towards the secularization of the school by reflecting the changes in the composition and characteristics of the population.

According to Greek media, those students or pupils who do not identify with any religious faith, or who are not orthodox Christians, will learn ethics instead of religious instruction, if they constitute a sufficient number.

The right-wing newspaper "Kathimerini" calls the religious instruction classes "something more than catechism in Orthodox Christianity" which is the official religious faith in Greece.

Currently, parents can ask their children to be excluded from religious education for reasons of conscience, and in this context, there are 10,500 students in Greece who have been excluded from these classes.

The Greek Ministry of Education has stated that ethics will be taught if there are a minimum of 10 students per class who do not want religious instruction, and for this purpose four ethics manuals will be prepared./CNA
