Jozef Puska gruesomely murdered teacher Ashling Murphy on January 12, 2022.

8 days ago, the 33-year-old from Ireland appeared before the jury to receive the final sentence, life imprisonment.

He stabbed the teacher 11 times in the neck, whom he attacked along the Grand Canal in Tullamore. The young man denied the crime but was caught on camera riding a green and black bicycle a few meters away from Ashling's body.

Also, before arriving at the place where he committed the crime, the cameras filmed the 33-year-old chasing two women on a bicycle.

In addition to the bike, Puska's fingerprints and DNA were found on Ashling's body and fingernails.

According to the prosecution, Ashling had scratched her assailant as she tried to save her life and thus the perpetrator's DNA remained on the nail.

After taking the teacher's life, he dragged her through thorns and thistles and then threw her on a path.

A day after the murder, Puska was seen with scratches on his face and hands.  

Despite the fact that he claimed that it was another person who committed the murder and injured him as well as the teacher, this theory was rejected by the prosecution.

Jozef Puska is now in jail and will serve a life sentence./ CNA
