Biden meets in Warsaw with the leaders of Eastern Europe

On the second day of his visit to Poland, the American president, Joe Biden, is expected to meet in Warsaw with the representatives of several Eastern European NATO countries.

The so-called Ninth Bucharest Group represents the countries that make up NATO's eastern wing. It includes: Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is also expected to attend the meeting.

Biden's visit to Poland is part of a series of consultations with allies to prepare for a more complicated phase of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began almost a year ago.

During his speech yesterday to citizens gathered outside the Royal Castle in Warsaw, he said that Ukraine "will never be a victory for Russia".

Before Poland, he visited Ukraine, where he stayed for over five hours.

The unannounced visit there once again underlined Washington's support for Kiev.
