An explosion of war and peace.

Just two days ago, US forces crossed that thick red line when they bombed Iran's three main nuclear power plants.

It was an unprecedented moment, fraught with dangers. Alarm bells rang all over the world.

Then, as expected, Iran retaliated yesterday with a strategy it has used before - telegraphing to the US through intermediaries that it would strike their largest air base in the Middle East, but would not cause much damage or death.

This moment unfolded with such speed that Qatar, whose sovereign territory was attacked, became a mediator to help secure this ceasefire that President Trump suddenly announced to the world.

Mixed with the surprise, there is great relief.

Relief above all for the people of Iran and Israel who have been under constant fire for the last 12 days.

And there is a collective sigh of relief across the region and far beyond.

Many would like to believe President Trump when he spoke enthusiastically of the explosion of love, peace, and prosperity - at best, this is the end of the first chapter of this war.

It is certainly not the beginning of peace between sworn enemies Iran and Israel.
