"The 8 protesters will not be executed"/ Trump: Iran's leaders

US President Donald Trump has said that Iran has canceled the executions of eight women arrested for participating in anti-government protests.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that four of the women will be released from prison immediately and the other four have been sentenced to one month in prison. He said Iran's decision was made at his request.

"Very good news! I have just been informed that the eight female protesters who were to be executed tonight in Iran will not be executed again. Four of them will be released immediately and four others will be sentenced to one month in prison. I greatly appreciate that Iran and its leaders respected my request as President of the United States and halted the planned execution. Thank you for your attention to this matter," his post reads.

A day earlier, Trump had written a message to Iran's leaders, saying that the women's release would be a good start for negotiations between them.

Iran has repeatedly referred to recent nationwide protests as "foreign plots" and labeled demonstrators "terrorist elements" working for the US and Israel.  /CNA
