The promotion of innovation, Albania's membership in the "SEPA" payments area, and open banking were the focus of the meeting that the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, held with representatives of the banking sector.
Governor Sejko said that the digital transformation and the advancement of further steps in "SEPA" are among the most important objectives.
"Banks should continue preparations to respect the established deadlines, in order to achieve the accession to the "SEPA" schemes and the completion of transactions for customers within the year 2025. In this context, it is now time for the banking system to commit to being fully part of "SEPA" systems, investing in technology, infrastructure and staff training. This initiative is also expected to directly influence the increase in customer satisfaction of the banking sector, through increased payment efficiency. cross-border and integration into the European financial system."
