Draft Budget 2026/ Minister: 81.2 billion lek spending in the health sector

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, presented the 2026 draft budget today to the Economy Committee.

Malaj focused on the health sector, where he said that for next year the budget is planned to be 81.2 billion lek.

The Minister announced that several policies will be funded with priority, and that 1.5 billion more lek will be financed for the recovery of oncology drugs.

" Health sector spending for 2026 is planned to be 81.2 billion lek or about 2.9% of gross domestic product. The 2026 draft budget will prioritize financing of several policies. Prescription treatment and improved medicines for about 400,000 patients. Financing with 1.5 billion lek more for the recovery of oncology medicines in primary care and their provision throughout the hospital system. Approved hospital service packages in public and non-public hospitals, including the new package for the treatment of thrombocytopenia, as well as the reconstruction of a number of regional hospitals and health centers ," said Malaj.

 

 

The minister also touched on salaries in health and education. Malaj said that the average salary of a general practitioner will reach around 143,446 lek per month.

 

" The salaries of nine-year school teachers will increase by 3,000 lek per month, bringing the average gross salary of these teachers from 96,300 lek per month to around 100,000 lek per month. The average gross salary of a general practitioner, with the projected increase, will reach around 143,446 lek per month, while that of nurses will reach 92,526 lek per month. The average gross salary in public administration, for budget employees in 2026, will reach around 112,000 lek per month ," said Malaj./CNA
