Pressure for employees/ Tourism increased the average salary due to the effect

The need for workers from the least qualified to the highly qualified for the tourism sector has put the latter under constant pressure to revise wages.

Last year alone, the average salary as a result of contributions in the tourism sector increased by 23 percent, at least this is what results from an analysis of the General Directorate of Taxes for the figures of 2023.

The same report also analyzes the effect that the tourism record of the country has had, where an increase in the number of subjects in relation to 2022, more employees as well as an increase in Personal Income Tax can be observed.

"Referring turnover from fiscalization for all NIPTs of the tourism population, for the month of August 2023 have resulted in an increase in turnover by 7%. While for taxpayers who report in both years, the turnover increase is about 6%. From the comparison of the list of payments for the period 2023 - 2022 as the last total payment list for the population of taxpayers in the tourism sector, the following data result: - Increase in the number of taxpayers by +12% compared to the same period a year ago and an increase with only +2% of the number of employees; – The increase in the average salary for contributions is +23%; - Increase of TAP by + 33%", the report states.

According to the report, at the beginning of the year, Taxes had a plan for tourism based on risk analysis, based on which there were elements such as: tourism without invoices for a period of 1 week 50, turnover decrease monthly comparison, less than 7 employees without VAT responsibility -are, subject to tax liability but with turnover decreasing from week to week by more than 10% as well as a number of similar elements.

While on the one hand, as an emergency for the tourism sector this year, there is a need for employees when the flow of visitors is expected to increase, on the other hand, the government has declared that it will have a tougher approach to informality and evasion.

The head of the Rama government himself in several public appearances has underlined that the attitudes in the structures do not match the developments in the sector where the number of entries at the end of December 2023 was 10.15 million tourists, implying that there is under-declaration./ Monitor.al
