Over nine percent/ Record inflation in Eurozone countries

Inflation in the eurozone crossed the nine percent mark in August. Consumer prices in the 19 countries with the Euro currency rose 9.1 percent in a year. This was announced by the Eurostat statistics office based on a quick assessment. Since the introduction of the Euro as an exchange currency in 1999, price increases have never been as high as in August. Experts polled by the Reuters news agency had expected an increase of 9.0 percent. In July, the inflation rate was still 8.9 percent.

Core inflation at 4.3 percent
