"Zai Fundo, one of the most complex figures in history"/ Sula:

The head of the Authority for Information on Documents of the former State Security, Gentiana Sula, has reacted to the placement of intellectual Zai Fundo in the heart of Korça.

In her reaction, Sula states that Zai Fundo is one of the most complex and tragic figures in our history.

The AIDSSH leader says that the regime born in 1944 did not spare even its most talented sons when they opposed the cult and violence.

Sula writes that Zai Fundo was one of the few communists with a high theoretical background and international vision.

 

 

“ Zai Fundo, one of the most complex and tragic figures in our 20th century history, was a brilliant Marxist intellectual, a graduate of the Sorbonne, a translator of Marx, and one of the founders of the CPSU in 1941. He was among the few Albanian communists with a high theoretical education and an international vision, an anti-fascist and Europeanist of the first hours. Had he remained alive, Zai Fundo would most likely have been one of the first and greatest victims of the subsequent purges within the CPSU. His Western education, critical thinking, connections with Trotsky, and refusal of blind subordination to Belgrade had already marked him as “unsuitable” for the regime that was being created. The installation of his bust now is not simply a tribute to a forgotten figure; it is an act of historical justice and a strong message: even within the communist movement there were people who were killed precisely because they wanted a more humane, more independent, and less bloody. It is a reminder that the regime that was born in 1944 did not spare even its most talented sons when they opposed the cult and violence. Let this bust serve as a call to never again confuse liberation from fascism with the justification of the crimes that came later. Glory to Zai Fundo and all those who paid with their lives for the rejection of the dictatorship, from whatever ideological wing they came from ,” writes Sula./CNA
