The President of the Union of the Politically Persecuted, Besim Ndregjoni, shared today a critical stance regarding state ceremonies dedicated to national holidays.

Invited to "Syri Tv", Ndregjoni said that there is a big change in the celebration today, compared to the period before the '90s.

According to Ndregjoni, there should be a better division of the two days' honors, especially for the memory of martyrs.

"The celebration of the identity of a nation, of a country and how it is being treated in the post-communist period after '90, these state ceremonies that are dedicated to the nation, are dedicated to the homeland. I do not see, being a part of it, being an individual who has seen it even in times of dictatorship, how the national flag day was celebrated, and how it is celebrated now in political pluralism.

Unfortunately, Albanian history has remained hostage to the communist dictatorship. That is, even though 35 years have passed, Albanian historiography does not tell the truth about the raising of the flag, about this great act of Albanian independence.

For example, Albanian history gives, Albanian historiography gives priority to dictatorship and not at all to Independence Day.

Now, we cannot equate the martyrs of the Second World War with the martyrs of independence. Since 1912, when Albania gained independence, and until 1920, Albania has gone through many wars with its neighbors, who sought at all costs not to let this nation be a single nation. And there are many martyrs. There are martyrs from Shkodra, from Dibra, from Kukës, in the south. So, all these martyrs, today they treat them as if these martyrs are the ones who contributed to the flag day", - said Ndregjoni./CNA
