November 28 of Albanians/ 70th anniversary of the birth of the legendary

Today is a significant day for all Albanians. Albania celebrates the 113th anniversary of Independence.

But November 28 is another important date, which coincides with the birth of the legendary commander-in-chief, the hero of Kosovo, Adem Jashari.

If he were alive today, the hero would be celebrating his 70th birthday.

Adem Jashari was born on November 28, 1955 and lived until March 7, 1998. He was the commander-in-chief and main founder of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

He was born on November 28, 1955 in the village of Prekaz i Poshtëm, Drenica, Kosovo, and was martyred on March 7, 1998 in the same village, during the attack on Prekaz. After the war, he was declared a Hero of Kosovo.

Together with his brother Hamza, Adem Jashari participated in attacks against Serbian military police forces, which later attacked his house in March 1998, where Adem Jashari fell heroically along with 58 members of his family. This is a unique case in the history of wars. He is known as the Legendary Commander of the KLA. The order "Hero of Kosovo" was awarded to him in 2008 by the Prime Minister of Kosovo.

Adem Jashari was born into a family with patriotic traditions. He was the third son of teacher Shaban Jashari. He completed primary school in his hometown, while he completed Technical High School in the city of Skenderaj.

Adem Jashari was always aware that only the crack of a rifle would liberate Kosovo from the Serbo-Slav occupation. He was rarely seen without a weapon. He was raised in the spirit of bravery, heroism and patriotism, from which his father Shabani had instilled heroism in him.

In 1991, Adem Jashari moved to Albania according to the agreement of the Kosovo authorities with Ramiz Ali, to train with the first volunteers, who later joined the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

On February 28, 1998, a group of fighters led by Adem Jashari attacked Serbian police patrols, killing four police officers and wounding two others.

The Jashari family was fought by Serb forces in Kosovo in the 1990s, but this fact was kept hidden from the general public, by moderate Albanian politicians and the Belgrade government, as a way to preserve the status quo.

The first battle between Adem and his comrades against the Yugoslav Federal Forces took place on the morning of December 30, 1991. The Jasharij home was surrounded by a large number of Serb security forces demanding his surrender.

Adem Jashari, along with his comrades, broke the siege and later participated in several actions against the Yugoslav army and police.

Adem Jashari's house in Prekaz was attacked again by Yugoslav federal police forces on January 22, 1998.

Adem Jashari and his heroic sacrifice became a symbol of independence for Albanians in Kosovo and for Albanians everywhere. Many of them wore T-shirts with his picture after Kosovo declared its independence on February 17, 2008.

The inscription on the T-shirts was "Bac u kry", referring to the expression used during the tributes at his grave on the occasion of the declaration of independence, as the realization of the sublime goal of Adem Jashari's entire life and activity./ CNA
