Murder of Judge Kalaja/ Court hearings suspended

Sessions at the Court of Appeal in Tirana have been suspended for today.

Decision taken after the serious incident that occurred yesterday, where Judge Astrit Kalaja was executed by gunfire.

The judge was shot by Elvis Shkambi in the courtroom. The perpetrator was handcuffed a few minutes later in the courtroom.

In connection with the murder of Judge Kalaaja, Gjon Shkambi, the perpetrator's uncle, and the guard of the Court of Appeals were also arrested today.

 

How did the incident happen?

Author Elvis Shkambi was present in the courtroom, where at 2:00 PM a hearing began on a property case, in which his uncle was a party to the trial.

Afterwards, the hearing continued normally until Judge Astrit Kalaja was briefed on the claims of both parties.

A few minutes later, the judge ruled in favor of Shkambi's opposing party, citizens RK and E. K, who were injured and are out of danger.

Shkambi shot the judge with a pistol as soon as he gave the verdict.

After the crime committed inside the courthouse, the perpetrator handed over the weapon to the court security guard and then fled to the court yard, where there was a police patrol outside.

The perpetrator did not resist and remained in the court yard until the police placed handcuffs on him.
