The head of the Department of Health in DP, Ilir Alimehmeti, in a statement to the media commented on the statistics of the well-known Italian Institute "Neotes" on air pollution in Tirana.

Alimehmeti emphasized that air pollution in Tirana is alarming and that nitrogen dioxide and benzene are 4 times higher in the air of Tirana than the average of European Union countries.

He underlines that the Municipality's propaganda says that we have 1 million trees and clean air, while the reality is quite different, highlighting the concreting of the capital.

" Air pollution in Tirana, according to the latest measurements of the well-known Italian Institute "Neotes", is alarming. The air that we breathe every day and take into our lungs, our children, our elderly, our sick, residents of Tirana or visitors, without any difference, is a health risk, it is carcinogenic.

Italian experts have found that two of the most dangerous elements for health, nitrogen dioxide and benzene, are 4 times higher in the air of Tirana than the average of the countries of the European Union.

There are some areas in Tirana, where benzene is 101 micrograms per cubic meter, while in Italy it is only 5 micrograms.

This substance causes cancer.

Also, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide is alarming. The Italian laboratory "Neotes" reveals that it manages to capture shocking figures, being 9 times higher than the average recommended by the World Health Organization.

Nitrogen dioxide increases mortality from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and worsens asthma, respiratory infections and chronic lung diseases.

This is, unfortunately, the truth of our Tirana. The Municipality's propaganda says that we have 1 million trees and clean air. Meanwhile, the reality is quite different. Even without science, the open-eyed man sees and understands that when constructions have no brakes, when traffic is extended at every hour of the day, when measures to control the environment and stop violators are non-existent, we could not have clean air and indicators of good health in our city.

Therefore, on May 14, dear fellow citizens, we must clean the air from its biggest and absolute polluter, from Erion Veliaj.

With the greed for money, with the powerlessness to say no to Rama and the oligarchs, with whom they connect private interests, not public interest, the air of Tirana will continue to be polluted and our life unsafe and unhealthy.
