SPAK sent the mayor for trial/ Veliaj's lawyers react

Mayor Erion Veliaj's lawyers have reacted after SPAK sent the mayor, his wife, and other defendants, starting with businessmen Elman Abule and Klotilda Bushka, for trial.

Lawyers say the mayor categorically denies the allegations, as he has done since the beginning.

They further state that there is no evidence, facts or documents for the abuse of the mayor's office.

In fact, this lie by Veliaj's lawyers is refuted precisely by what SPAK has listed in the investigations against the mayor.

According to SPAK, concrete data has been collected, which proves beyond any reasonable doubt, that the defendant Erion Veliaj, in his capacity as Mayor of Tirana, with his signature approved in every case the distribution of these funds, which subsequently ended up with the above-mentioned NGOs, limited liability companies, natural persons controlled by his wife, the defendant Ajola Xoxa, as well as individuals close to her.

Also, the defendants, due to the function performed by citizen Erion Veliaj, have irregularly benefited from immovable property of considerable value from commercial entities that have received public funds and building permits from the Municipality of Tirana. In all these episodes, the defendants, in collaboration with each other, have consumed the elements of the criminal offense provided for by Article 260 of the Criminal Code.

In addition to the above, the Mayor of Tirana, the defendant Erion Veliaj, in the exercise of his functions, has committed concrete actions in violation of the law, in failure to properly fulfill his duty, in order to obtain material benefits unjustly, but also with concrete consequences to the detriment of the interests of citizens and the state, regarding the approval of a PDV and then the construction permit for a multi-storey residential building, on a plot of land where his wife has property interests.

The actions of the local elected official are proven to have been carried out under conditions of conflict of interest, in complete lack of functional competence, as well as in violation of the procedures that the law establishes for the approval of an administrative act, such as the Detailed Local Plan in this case. In this way, this citizen is proven to have consumed the constituent elements of Article 248 of the Criminal Code.

So, from the investigations conducted by SPAK, Erion Veliaj was completely and completely caught in abuse of office.
