The European University of Tirana gives the award to Majlinda Bregu for her contribution to regional cooperation and EU integration.
The Secretary General of the Council for Regional Cooperation (RCC), Majlinda Bregu, was honored for her inspiring leadership, steadfast commitment and her contribution to regional cooperation and the integration of the region in the EU, in a ceremony that was held yesterday in Tirana.
The President of the European University of Tirana, Selami Xhepa, presented Mrs. Bregu with a Certificate of Appreciation, honoring her for her long commitment to advancing the European integration of the Western Balkans, promoting dialogue, sustainable development, and strengthening economic and social ties. , supporting gender equality, empowering youth and promoting cooperation in the region.
"After these six years, I can say that respect remains the cornerstone of regional cooperation - respect for others' opinions, perspectives, borders and even history. During these years, the Council for Regional Cooperation, together with the Western Balkans, has reached important milestones, bringing concrete benefits to its citizens. From the abolition of roaming charges for the Western Balkans, the reduction of roaming charges between the EU and the region, to the mutual recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications and the development of the Common Regional Market.

Today, the Common Regional Market is a regional roadmap integrated into the EU plan for the region. But with around 30% of the youth of the Western Balkans unemployed and 1 in 3 considering leaving their country, we are at a critical moment where prioritizing youth-oriented policies is no longer an option, but a necessity. These policies should be designed to give young people strong reasons to stay, creating opportunities for growth, innovation and fulfillment within their community. By addressing their aspirations and concerns, we can not only slow the pace of the brain drain, but also build a future where our youth see their potential and ambitions realized here in our region.” Bregu said in her speech while receiving this honor.
"As a prominent figure with a fresh perspective through her roles over the years, Majlinda has left a lasting impact. It is a pleasure and a source of pride that Albania has provided an important figure for regional politics, but without a doubt for European politics as well. We hope that her career will continue to grow in size and influence in the coming years", said Selami Xhepa, President of UET, during the ceremony.
Majlinda Bregu is nearing the end of her mandate as General Secretary of the RCC, marking the end of a successful and productive period of six years. During her leadership, the RCC has achieved important milestones, strengthened regional cooperation, promoted key initiatives and supported the common aspirations of the Western Balkans.
