The General Director of Archives, Ardit Bido, and the head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine (SASU), Anatolii Khromov, have signed a cooperation agreement, which paves the way for the exchange of documentation that mainly sheds light on the role of the Albanian exile in Odesa, during period of the National Renaissance.

Thus the Archives are enriched with hundreds of documents on the activity of the Albanian diaspora in Ukraine.

In his speech to the media, Bido said that through this agreement a legal framework is created, which, in addition to the use of documentation useful for the Albanian public, also enables the exchange of experience and expertise between the two cooperating institutions.

"It is an important agreement with the State Archives of Ukraine, which serves the Albanian public in many ways. Ukraine has been an epicenter throughout our National Renaissance. A number of activities have been developed there by our revivalists. Beyond that, there are a number of Albanian settlements in Ukraine, which have preserved the Albanian language, tradition and customs. Through this agreement, we agree, among other things, to the exchange of information, as well as the exchange of human resources and shared expertise between our two institutions. Ukraine has been in a difficult position for years, due to the unjust war waged there. However, our cooperation has been continuous, even before the signing of this agreement. Today we create the necessary legal instruments, so that we can exchange documentation to enrich the Albanian archives related to our National Renaissance and our Albanian diaspora in Ukraine," said Bido.

Meanwhile, his Ukrainian counterpart appreciated the continuous inter-institutional cooperation and the significant changes that the DPA has brought in the field of archival.

"It is a great honor for me to be here today and to have the opportunity to sign an agreement. I think this is a significant day for us, as it is only the first step of cooperation between us. Our countries have similar visions for the development of archival systems. Also, the collections we keep are important documents, both for Ukrainians and Albanians. This is an important meeting and I hope that the Albanian archive will bring great changes in the field of archival", said Khromov.

The bilateral agreement is motivated by the aspiration for cooperation between the two sister archival institutions. Through this commitment, the signatory parties undertake to organize joint exhibitions on topics of mutual interest, participate in scientific and professional conferences and prepare joint collections of documents for publication.

Based on the principle of reciprocity, DPA and SASU undertake the exchange of specialists, in order to carry out joint research and study archival materials free of charge. This agreement has a validity of 5 years and may remain in force even beyond this term, in the absence of the will of the parties to end it.

The collaboration with the Ukrainian archive comes to life in the framework of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the DPA. In a busy calendar dedicated to this jubilee anniversary, a series of activities will be held in which the leaders of the archives of the region and beyond will participate./ CNA
