The Ambassador of Great Britain to Serbia, Edward Ferguson, told Nova that many questions remained unanswered after the events in Banjska, Kosovo. He said that Serbia should contribute to the investigation and added that there is no justification for the attack on the police.

How do you see the events in Banjska, what consequences could it bring?

This was a very serious incident and many questions are still unanswered, for example - who were these people, how did they get access to such an arsenal of weapons and what did they plan to do with it. As our Minister for European Affairs emphasized during his visit to Belgrade earlier this week, it is extremely important that Serbia now contributes to a full investigation and bringing those responsible to justice. I understand that emotions are running high on all sides, but what we desperately need now is responsibility and restraint. Since this incident happened on Sunday, we have seen a series of headlines in the media that have only added fuel to the fire, rather than helping to calm the situation.

There is no justification for the attacks on police that took place on Sunday. At the same time, we must admit that this did not happen in a vacuum, but in the context of increased tensions on the ground, all due to serial failures to achieve progress in the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

Dialogue under the auspices of the EU is still the key place where disputes between the two sides should be resolved and how to improve the daily life of all people and communities in both Serbia and Kosovo. This has always been important. Unresolved tensions between Belgrade and Pristina are, of all issues, perhaps the biggest obstacle to the economic development of this region. We can all see the consequences in the form of large numbers of young people and families leaving the country... What the events of the past weekend have shown is that this is not only an important issue, but also an urgent one. . For this reason, we call on President Vucic and Prime Minister Kurti to return to dialogue in the spirit of compromise and in the interest of all people in this region and beyond in Europe.

Më duket se kjo është më shumë çështje për Serbinë sesa për mua. Unë mendoj se bota po i shikon këto ngjarje me një nivel serioz shqetësimi. Ngjarjet e tmerrshme të së dielës përbëjnë një kërcënim real për stabilitetin rajonal dhe në botën e sotme, askush nuk e dëshiron këtë. Të gjithë partnerët ndërkombëtarë të Serbisë po e monitorojnë situatën dhe shpresojnë se Serbia, duke pasur parasysh ndikimin e saj të rëndësishëm në komunitetet në veri të Kosovës, do të luajë një rol të përgjegjshëm - si në qetësimin e situatës aktuale ashtu edhe për të ndihmuar në gjetjen e një rruge për një marrëdhënie të qëndrueshme me fqinjët. Ky nuk është aspak një rol që duhet të luajë vetëm Serbia. Dhe vetëm Kosova duhet të tregojë më shumë gatishmëri për kompromis për të ecur drejt normalizimit./ CNA
