Plague in Cologne? / PCR test results released

PCR tests on the small cattle herd in Kolonjë have come back negative, ruling out the presence of peste de petits ruminants. As a result, the Korça region remains currently unaffected by this disease.

Initially, the Veterinary Service in Korça had raised suspicions after preliminary tests about a possible infection, but the final laboratory results, confirmed on Saturday evening, showed that the herd was not infected.

Meanwhile, veterinary authorities announce that the ban on livestock migration and animal transport to neighboring areas and countries remains in force, as a preventive measure until the epidemiological situation is fully assessed. 

The Director General of the National Veterinary Authority, Roland Mecaj, has announced that all livestock farmers in the country, including those in the southeast, who suffered losses on their farms last year due to the plague of small ruminants, will be compensated for the damages caused.

Meanwhile, by order of the Ministry of Agriculture, a ban on livestock migration from neighboring countries, including Greece, has recently been imposed. /CNA
