Meta remains without a lawyer/ Cakrani flees

Lawyer Kujtim Cakrani will no longer be the legal representative of the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta.

The news was confirmed by Cakran's own legal office through a media release, explaining that the reason for this is the lack of necessary cooperation and the loss of mutual trust.

The announcement states that there is no conflict of interest or mutual accusations.

After Cakran's departure, it is expected to be known who will be the legal representative of the leader of the PL, Ilir Meta.

On May 24, 2025, the “Cakrani” Law Firm, through attorney Kujtim Cakrani, assumed the legal representation of the former President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Ilir Metaj, in the criminal proceedings conducted before the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCAC/SPAK). The cooperation was carried out with professional honesty and with full commitment to the protection of the client's legal rights and interests.

Today, on June 29, 2026, the Law Firm “Cakrani” announces to the public that the client-lawyer relationship with Mr. Ilir Metaj has come to an end. The termination of this relationship is a result of the loss of mutual trust and the lack of necessary cooperation between the client and the legal counsel, a situation that was especially evident after the last court session of the case on the merits.

We emphasize that this separation is made entirely within the norms of ethics and professional deontology of the lawyer, in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Chamber of Advocates and the legislation in force. There is no conflict of interest, mutual accusations or controversial position from either party. The decision simply reflects the lack of objective conditions necessary for the continuation of effective legal protection.

The Law Firm “Cakrani” wishes Mr. Metaj the best of luck in finding the right legal representation and respects his constitutional and conventional right to a fair trial. Throughout the entire period of cooperation, attorney Kujtim Cakrani has acted with full professional integrity and will maintain, as required by law, the confidentiality of information obtained during the exercise of his mandate.
