The Dossier Authority has completed the administrative investigation for the 4 shot dead of the Spaç Revolt, Skënder Daja, Pal Zefi, Dervish Bejko and Hajri Pashaj.

After the investigation, it was concluded that the 4 shot dead may have a grave nearby.

The Dossier Authority informs that the identified place where they may have been buried is located about 20 meters away from the well-known burial site of Shpal.

According to this institution, the suspected place is cleared and it can easily be searched or dug for the bones.

The 4 shot dead of the Spaçi Revolt, Skënder Daja, Pal Zefi, Dervish Bejko and Hajri Pashaj, may soon have a grave where the family members can place a wreath of flowers and honor their memory.

This is the conclusion reached by the working group at AIDSSH, after the 6-month investigation for the verification of the suspected burial sites and the clarification of the fate of the forty-four missing persons, killed or dead while serving their sentence, in Spaçi prison, which was undertaken within the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the prisoners' revolt on May 21-23, 1973.

The report states that the identified place where they may have been buried is located about 20 meters away from the well-known Shpali burial site. The suspected site is cleared and it can easily be searched or dug for the bones. Leaving without grave sketches, topographic map, and other data, (these settings also with official documents from the Ministry of Interior) by the authorities of the time was intentional.

In the framework of this investigation, the working group has also determined the exact coordinates regarding the burial place of the shot Ahmet Hoxha, sentenced to be shot, after the escape attempt, at the age of 39, 20 years of which he spent in prison.

The bodies of those killed and dead, arrested and political prisoners in the investigators, camps and prisons of the communist regime in the years 1945-1991, according to the inhumane rules established by the regime, were not handed over to their families.

Here, those who were executed were classified: "since the Presidium of the People's Assembly did not spare their lives, those convicted of crimes against the state, those convicted of crimes against the state, those convicted of social dangerousness". According to the instruction: "the bodies of those killed in an attempt to escape, etc., and which are unidentified may also be given to medical institutions for their activity."

The working group, in order to come to this conclusion, carried out written communication with institutions that had data about Spaçi prison; in-depth research in the AIDS Archives; cooperated with the Directorate of Archives at the Ministry of the Interior, for data about the executed, murdered, and dead in the Spaçi prison, as well as the clarification of the practices followed, of the regulations, orders and instructions that determined these practices.

At the same time, the group gathered testimonies from family members of those killed and those who died in Spaçi Prison, from former police officers, residents of the village of Spaç and former freelancers; held meetings with representatives of the local government in Mirditë and Fusharrëz, carried out inspections in the known burial places such as near the Catholic Church, Shpal, as well as in the places which are thought to be suspected burial places for those killed and the dead in Spaçi Prison.

With the decision of the Authority, the report has been sent for action to the Ministry of the Interior, the General Prosecutor's Office, the Mirdita Municipality, the Institute of Forensic Medicine and the ICMP Office in Tirana, for taking measures to protect suspected sites from being alienated, as well as taking steps concrete in escalating the process of recovering the bones of shot people.

The authority appreciates the cooperation with the responsible institutions so far and expresses its belief that they will act together to make it possible for the unhealed wound of the families, who are looking for clarification of the fate of the family member, killed without trial or executed under conditions not human, to end with their finding and the respect they deserve, next to their families./ CNA
