Fight against corruption and crime/ Dumani: SPAK has been evaluated in the EC

The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, at the meeting at Eqrem Çabej University in Gjirokastra, also shared details about the creation and functioning of the Special Prosecution Office. Dumani indicated that at the beginning there were only eight prosecutors in SPAK, while currently there are 20 special prosecutors.

Among other things, the head of SPAK also spoke about the National Bureau of Investigation, a structure in which he said 60 investigators work closely with special prosecutors.

Dumani noted that SPAK's activity has been evaluated in the European Commission's Progress Report for 2024, for its results in the fight against corruption of senior officials, organized crime and the protection of the financial interests of the European Union.

"In my capacity as Head of the Special Structure, I represent an institution, widely known by its acronym SPAK, consisting of the Special Prosecution Office and the National Bureau of Investigation. This structure focuses on the fight against corruption and organized crime. We have tried to build a model based on professionalism, integrity and transparency.

At the beginning, in the Special Prosecution Office, there were only eight of us prosecutors who came from the Serious Crimes Prosecution Office. Last year, the number of prosecutors was increased and today we are 20 special prosecutors. During these first six years, we have tried to help, in addition to our investigative work, also the establishment and consolidation of the institution.

The National Bureau of Investigation – Part of SPAK is a special, specialized structure of the Judicial Police that investigates criminal offenses within the criminal jurisdiction of the Special Prosecution. So far, there are 60 investigators working in this structure and closely with the special prosecutors.

We also have a financial investigator sector, with 12 investigators. SPAK's activity has been evaluated in the European Commission's Progress Report for 2024, for its results in the fight against corruption of high-ranking officials, organized crime and the protection of the financial interests of the European Union", said Dumani, among other things. /CNA
