Journalist Basir Çollaku spoke today about corruption and the impact of crime in Albanian prisons.

In a television appearance, Çollaku stated that there could be 100 phones in a normal security prison. He stated that sending these phones to prisons creates large informal income.

Among other things, he added that when prisoners have economic and political power, the situation does not change even if ministers or leaders are constantly changed.

"A friend who deals with justice information was telling me that in a normal security prison, there can be 100 phones. It costs 500 euros to send it, 1000 euros to keep it, and it costs 100 thousand euros a month. Who gets these?! It is also untaxed, they do not pay VAT. The government sends a police director, a prison director, but when these prisoners, especially those for serious crimes, who are in electoral headquarters, when he has a friend the minister, the deputy, the mayor, an electoral friend, a government friend and a business friend, and when they have this economic and political power, what will the prison director and the guard, who receives a ridiculous salary there, do to them. This does not change in my opinion, change as many ministers as you want, change as many police directors as you want", said the journalist. /CNA
