He demanded the annulment of the agreement/ the Constitutional Court

The Constitutional Court has today "rejected" the opposition's request for the cancellation of the agreement with the Arab Emirates for the Port of Durrës.

A group of 37 MPs from the Democratic Party and other opposition parties asked the Constitutional Court in November 2022 to annul the agreement.

The deputies claim that it does not agree with the Constitution and international agreements. But today, the Constitutional Court rejected the opposition's claims.

Notice of the Constitutional Court:

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania, after considering in a plenary session on the basis of the documents the case with no. 7 (Nj) 2022 of the Basic Registry, with petitioners not less than one fifth of the deputies (36 deputies) of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, with the object: "Repeal of law no. 145/2020, dated 03.12.2020 "On the ratification of the agreement for economic cooperation between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates", as incompatible with the Constitution and international agreements. Suspension of the implementation of law no. 145/2020, dated 02.12.2020, until the final decision of the Constitutional Court enters into force", in support of articles 131, point 1, letters "a" and "b" and 134, point 1, letter "c", of Constitution, as well as Articles 52, 52/a and 72 et seq. of Law no. 8577,

DECIDE:

1. Dismissal of the request.

This decision is final and enters into force on the day of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The final decision will be announced as reasoned within the legal deadlines provided by law no. 8577, dated 10.02.2000 "On the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania", as amended by the Regulation on the judicial procedures of the Constitutional Court./ CNA.al
