Tirana on 22.08.2024

UGSH was informed by the well-known sports journalist Ervin Baku that, on Thursday morning, he reported to the State Police, near the Regional Directorate of Tirana, in the anti-cybercrime sector, names and persons who on public online sites have generated a a large number of insults, blackmail, threats and stigmatization and even physical aggression against the journalist due to his appearance on a screen with some Serbian symbols, which happened on a t-shirt donated to Kopeg by a trainer of a well-known team Serbian.

Journalist Baku has publicly clarified that this gesture, thoughtless for meaning or provocative public sensitivity, has resulted in an unusual situation of threats, insults, swearing and labeling the journalist.

A day after this show on the screen, colleague Baku published a statement apologizing to the mass public and to all the people affected or provoked by this carelessness, as the colleague himself calls it.

But even after this publication, the barrage of threats, insults and insults continue to "pour" towards him and his professional image.

UGSH highly appreciates the colleague's public apology and his sincere explanation. While expressing deep concern for such a massive stigmatizing and intolerant flood towards our colleague not only within Albania, but far beyond

UGSH expresses full solidarity with colleague Ervin Baku and appreciates his approach through a convincing public opinion.

The recognition from our membership of the colleague and especially his activity and national feeling, makes us more active in solidarity for the immediate stop of these attacks and the continuation of the aggressive situation towards him!

We ask the police authorities, in cooperation with other security and civil protection structures, to react energetically to stop such attacks and this aggression. We demand the legal punishment of aggressors who go as far as threatening the life of a colleague!

It is the case that UGSH, as the largest organization of journalists in Albania, seeks and follows with the solidarity of organizations of journalists in the Republic of Kosovo and in North Macedonia, on behalf of the threatened colleague.

We appeal and share our position that such aggressions, (mostly in the virtual space), must be stopped and not turned into crusades by fanatics or extremists in the crowd, towards journalists, even more so towards one who respects the professional profile, that of the journalist sporty.
